About the emulator

You can run the emulator:

  1. As a standalone application, navigate to Start > All Programs > Nokia Developer Tools > Nokia SDK 2.0 for Java > Nokia SDK 2.0 for Java Emulator.

  2. As an integrated application with an integrated development environment (IDE) that lets you to create application with other supporting applications and allows you to immediately test the application with the SDK. See Using the SDK for Message Content Development overview or Creating and testing MIDlets

You can perform most functions on the emulator that are available on a device and conform to the Series 40 Platform. Because the emulator is a developers tool, you cannot make a phone call on the emulator. When you attempt to place a call on the emulator, it simulates the call. Select the End Call key to cancel the call function, or the call will cancel automatically and the message, Number not in use, displays.

After starting the emulator, the main window looks like this:

The contrast and color rendering capabilities of the emulator and a device may differ slightly because of the differences in monitor calibration, imaging technologies, and ambient lighting.

To simulate pressing the buttons on a mobile device, click the corresponding key on the emulator.

There are set of examples available in Java Developer's Library which you can use for testing.
