Emulator startup options

The SDK provides two startup modes for the emulator:

• Partial (Default)

• Full

In Partial startup mode, the following services are not started during emulator startup

• TimeZone Server

• Hardware Resource Management Server

• Nokia Splash screen and S60 animation

• Keypad autolock

• Voice commands

• Push to Talk over Cellular

• Screensaver

The main purpose of the Partial mode is to improve the emulator startup time. Therefore, if you encounter any problems while running an application on the Emulator, it is recommended that you test your application in Full startup mode. To enable Full startup mode, select Tools > Preferences > General Settings > Emulator Start Up Mode and restart the emulator.

To select the set of services used at emulator startup, do the following:

1. Open the Preferences window from the emulator menu bar (Tools > Preferences)

2. In the Preferences window, open the General Settings tab.

3. Under Emulator Start Up Mode click:

   • Start minimal set of services to select the limited set of services and thus enable faster emulator startup (this is the default option), or

   • Start all services to select the full list of services.

4. Click Apply.

5. Click OK.

6. Close the emulator.

7. Restart the emulator.
